EAP is designed to assist overseas students to develop English proficiency and further study skills to gain direct entry to undertake further studies at Certificate and Diploma level at College or Polytechnic Univertsity. Successful students are able to:

Increase their overall English proficiency representative of an IELTS 5.5 or IELTS 6 (EAP Nursing)

Develop study and learning skills for vocational and further study

Understand how to achieve high results in Australian education systems

Develop essential social and cultural skills to achieve results as an overseas student
Lessons are based on an EAP textbook supplemented by commercially produced EAP materials, materials developed by teachers. Lessons include weekly assessments, language laboratory tasks or activities and are supplemented by educational and social excursions, seminars and guest lectures.
EAP for Nursing is focused on English vocabulary and English usage within Health Care environments.

Assessment Procedures
Students are assessed throughout the program in reading, writing, speaking, listening and participation. Formal assessment tasks include: graded essays, formal discussions, debates, presentations, note taking and summarizing from lectures and texts, a research project, and surveys. The minimum pass rate for EAP is 65% overall and EAP for Nursing is 75% overall due to the higher English demands of the Health Care profession. On successful completion of the course a Statement of Attendance will be issued to each student, stating the level of English proficiency achieved and assessment results.
Resources included in the tuition fees are Student Orientation Handbook and relevant learning materials such as study guides, assessment requirements, handouts and workbooks. Students have access to library resources, computers, the Internet and a personal e-mail account at YES, including a Logon to the YES Student Study Area. Students may need to purchase stationery items such as paper, pens and a USB drive.
