  • Understand how to achieve high results in Australian education systems
  • Develop essential social and cultural skills to achieve results as an overseas student

Lessons are based on an EAP textbook supplemented by commercially produced EAP materials, materials developed by teachers. Lessons include weekly assessments, language laboratory tasks or activities and are supplemented by educational and social excursions, seminars and guest lectures.

EAP for Nursing is focused on English vocabulary and English usage within Health Care environments.

Content

  • Develop reading skills to read quickly and understand English academic texts
  • Write academic essays and reports
  • Give effective short (talks) and extended presentations
  • Understand academic lectures and seminars and take notes
  • Demonstrate an ability to contribute and participate as culturally expected in an academic learning environment

  • Assessment Procedures

Students are assessed throughout the program in reading, writing, speaking, listening and participation. Formal assessment tasks include: graded essays, formal discussions, debates, presentations, note taking and summarizing from lectures and texts, a research project, and surveys. The minimum pass rate for EAP is 65% overall and EAP for Nursing is 75% overall due to the higher English demands of the Health Care profession.
